The Occupational English Test (OET) is a crucial assessment for healthcare professionals seeking registration or migration in English-speaking countries. Here’s an overview of the recent OET modules:

Listening Sub-Test

Approximately 40 minutes long, this sub-test evaluates your ability to comprehend healthcare-related conversations .

It consists of three parts:

 Part A: Consultation Extracts

  Listen to two recorded health professional-patient consultations and complete the health professional’s notes.

Part B: Short Workplace Extracts

 Listen to six recorded extracts and answer one multiple-choice question for each.

 Part C: Presentation or Interview Extracts

Listen to two different extracts and answer six multiple-choice questions for each.

Reading Sub-Test

This 60-minute sub-test assesses your reading comprehension skills, focusing on generic healthcare topics .

It comprises three parts:

Part A: Expeditious Reading Task {15 minutes only}

Read four short texts and answer 20 matching, sentence completion, and short answer questions.

Part B: Short Workplace Extracts { B & C: 45 minutes}

 Read six extracts and answer one multiple-choice question for each.

 Part C: Longer Articles

 Read two articles and answer eight multiple-choice questions for each extract.

In total, 16 questions in reading part C .

Writing Sub-Test

This 45-minute sub-test evaluates your writing skills, specifically in a healthcare context . You will write a letter, usually a referral letter, discharge and transfer letter, based on a typical workplace scenario.

Speaking Sub-Test

Approximately 20 minutes long, this sub-test assesses your speaking skills in a healthcare setting . You’ll participate in two role-plays, taking the role of a healthcare professional, while the interlocutor plays the role of a patient or client.

These modules are designed to evaluate your English language proficiency in a healthcare context, ensuring you are  ready for the workplace .
